Atlanta native Tommy Roe (warning: loud autoplaying music) recorded his version of Stag in 1971, and actually had his last hit with it.
Remember how I said last week that Fats Domino's version of Stag was upbeat? Well, today's version is even MORE upbeat, almost to the point of being obnoxious.
I have a friend who doesn't like oldies, or any of the rock and roll of the fifties or sixties at all. His least favorite song of all time is Tommy Roe's "Sweet Pea" -- the relentless cheeriness can grate on my nerves if I'm in the wrong mood. Tommy's style is also pretty evident in this record, but I certainly wouldn't kick it out of my collection for that.

Somebody needs to bring chops like that back in style.
Those are... something, aren't they? I'd hoped to find a better picture of Tommy to use, but I had to post the whole thing in ten minutes (as my brother was on his way here to pick me up for vacation) so that's what you get.
Note to all record company executives: if someone's had their last hit five years ago, and then totally changed their look since, try to find an old picture to put on the greatest hits collection.
